Travel inland toward the Cultural Triangle, stopping at the UNESCO-listed Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. This complex of ancient cave shrines, filled with painted walls and Buddha images, reflects centuries of devotion and artistry. Continue to Sigiriya and check in to your accommodation in this peaceful area.
The day begins with a visit to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks, rising high above the surrounding plains. Later, enjoy a village experience in the countryside, where you will be introduced to rural traditions and the slower pace of daily life, offering an authentic glimpse into Sri Lankan culture.
Rise early for a boat excursion off the coast, with opportunities to see dolphins and other marine life in season. Later, enjoy the clear waters and coral reefs of Pigeon Island or Coral Island, marine sanctuaries that are popular for snorkelling. The afternoon is left at leisure to enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Depart the coast and travel to Kandy. On the way, stop at a spice garden where you’ll be introduced to the fragrant world of Sri Lankan spices and their uses in cooking and wellness. A short visit to a batik workshop will also give you an appreciation of one of the island’s traditional crafts. By evening, arrive in Kandy, the hill capital.

Continue to a craft shop to discover traditional Sri Lankan handicrafts and artistry. Later, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a place of great spiritual significance, and enjoy a cultural performance that reflects the traditions of the Kandyan kingdom.
Travel deeper into the central highlands, pausing at Ramboda Falls before arriving at a tea plantation and factory. This morning, board the train from Nanu Oya to Ella for one of the most scenic rail journeys in Asia. After passing through mountain vistas and tea country, visit the Nine Arches Bridge before continuing by road to Yala, where Sri Lanka’s best-known national park awaits.
