Season:

In Kalpitiya, there are two distinct kite seasons: summer and winter. The summer season spans from mid-May to mid-October, while the winter season occurs from mid-December to mid-March. During summer, consistent winds averaging 18-20 knots blow throughout the day, occasionally reaching up to 30 knots. In contrast, winter sees the wind intensify in the afternoon, ranging between 15 to 25 knots. Mornings present ideal conditions for activities such as yoga, diving, and dolphin or whale watching excursions. Both seasons in Kalpitiya are characterized by warm, dry weather and windy conditions, albeit with shifting wind directions that offer a varied experience at each location. While kiting without a wetsuit is possible year-round, some individuals opt to wear a shortie during the winter season.
